We grind stumps, take down trees and clear lots across Rocklin. The ground here is often rocky and the summers are hard on trees, so we look at each job on site before we start. Call or send a few photos and we will tell you what we would do.

What Rocklin yards are like

Rocklin sits on granite. The city grew up around quarries, and in many yards the rock is not far below the topsoil. That matters for stump work. Roots in shallow soil spread sideways rather than down, so a stump that looks small at the surface can have thick roots running under a lawn, a patio or a fence line. Where buried rock sits close to a stump, the grinder has to be run slowly and carefully.

The housing is mixed. Older homes near the historic downtown often have mature trees planted decades ago, or native oaks the houses were built around. Newer neighborhoods such as Stanford Ranch, Whitney Ranch and the subdivisions off Sunset Boulevard tend to have smaller yards and narrow side setbacks, where the width of the gate decides how we get to a backyard stump. Many of their street and yard trees went in at the same time and are now big enough to lift sidewalks and crowd roofs.

The climate shapes the work too. Summers are long, hot and dry, and most of the year's rain arrives in a few winter storms. Drought stress weakens a tree slowly over several summers, and then a wet, windy winter brings down limbs or whole trees that had been declining for years. Clay soil that bakes hard in August turns soft in January, which affects where we can roll equipment across a lawn without leaving ruts.

Services we offer in Rocklin

We offer the same eight services in Rocklin that we offer across the area.

Stump Grinding: we grind the stump below the soil surface so you can lay sod, seed or mulch over the spot. Stump Removal: we take out the stump and its main root mass, usually because you plan to build or plant in the same place. Root Grinding: we grind down surface roots that trip people, lift pavers or catch the mower.

Tree Removal: we take a tree down in sections when it is dead, leaning toward the house or simply in the wrong place. Tree Trimming: we remove dead wood, lift limbs off a roof and thin crowded growth. Lot Clearing: we clear brush, small trees and stumps from a vacant parcel or an overgrown back corner.

Oak Stump Removal: oak wood is dense and the roots spread wide, so these stumps take longer and need more care around nearby plantings. If the oak is still standing, check with the City of Rocklin first. The city has rules on removing and pruning native oaks, and you may need approval. Storm Cleanup: we clear limbs and trees brought down by winter storms, during our regular hours.

Grind it or remove it

For most stumps, grinding is enough. Once the stump is gone below grade, the roots left in the ground rot slowly over the next few years. You may see a small dip as they break down, and a bag or two of soil fixes it.

Full removal makes sense when you are pouring a slab, setting a footing or planting a new tree in the same hole. It is more disruptive. The hole is bigger, more soil gets turned over, and in Rocklin's rocky ground it can mean working around granite.

A few signs help decide. A stump that keeps sending up green shoots is still alive, and grinding it deeper usually stops that. A soft or hollow stump grinds quickly. A stump tight against a foundation, fence post or irrigation line may need to be ground partway, and we will talk through the options with you before going further.

What a visit looks like

We start by looking at the stump and the route to it: gate width, slopes, steps and anything buried nearby, such as sprinkler lines, low-voltage lighting or a gas line. Before grinding, public utility lines should be marked through 811. Private lines like irrigation are yours, and you know where they run better than anyone, so please point them out.

We explain how deep we plan to grind and what will be left behind, which is a pile of wood chips mixed with soil. Some people keep the chips as mulch for beds. Others want them hauled away. Tell us which you prefer.

Grinding is loud and throws small debris, so we ask that children and pets stay inside while the machine runs. When we finish, we rake the area level and tell you what to expect as the ground settles.

How to book in Rocklin

Call (916) 010-0003, email info@stumpgrindingroseville.com, or use the Get a Stump Quote button on this page. Tell us how many stumps you have, roughly how wide each one is across the top, and where they sit in the yard. Photos help a lot: one close up and one showing the path from the street.

We are open Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed on Sunday. We do not offer after-hours or emergency service. If a tree has fallen on your house or across power lines, call the utility or 911 first. Once it is safe, we can help with the cleanup during regular hours.
