Antelope sits just south of Roseville, close enough that we work there most weeks. If you have an old stump in the front lawn, roots lifting a patio, or a tree that has to come down, we can look at it and tell you plainly what it needs. Call us or ask for a stump quote and we will set up a time.

What we see in Antelope yards

Most of Antelope is subdivision housing, built in waves over the last few decades. Lots tend to be modest, with a front lawn, a side yard along a fence, and a back yard with a patio or small pool. Trees planted when those neighborhoods went in are now mature, and many have outgrown the space they were given. Ash, liquidambar, mulberry, pine and fruit trees are common, along with older native oaks on some of the larger parcels and near the creek corridors.

When a tree like that comes down, the stump usually stays behind. Homeowners mow around it for years, or try to dig it out with a shovel and find the job is much bigger than it looked. A stump left in place can sprout new shoots, draw termites and ants, and make it hard to lay sod, pavers or a new planting bed. Roots from a stump close to the house can also run under a walkway or driveway and keep pushing up concrete long after the tree is gone.

Climate and soil in this part of Placer and Sacramento County

Antelope has long, hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. That pattern matters for stump and tree work. In summer the ground bakes hard, especially where there is clay, and a grinder works through it fine but the area around it can be dusty. In winter the soil softens and holds water, so we pay more attention to where we park and roll the machine so we do not rut a lawn that is already soft.

The winter storms that come through the valley bring wind and heavy rain at the same time. Saturated ground plus a top-heavy tree is how most limbs and whole trees fail here. Shallow-rooted trees planted close to fences and houses are the ones we are called about most after a storm. Dry summers have the opposite effect: trees that are stressed by heat and short watering can drop large limbs on a calm afternoon. If a tree near your house has dead wood in the top, a lean that has changed, or mushrooms at the base, it is worth having someone look before the next wet season.

Services available in Antelope

We offer the same work in Antelope that we do in Roseville.

Stump Grinding is the most common request. A grinder chews the stump down below the surface, leaving wood chips you can keep as mulch or have hauled away. Stump Removal goes further and takes out the root ball itself, which makes sense when you plan to build, pour concrete or plant something in that exact spot.

Root Grinding follows surface roots out from the stump, useful when roots are running across a lawn or lifting a path. Tree Removal covers trees that are dead, dying, leaning toward a structure, or simply in the wrong place. Tree Trimming is for trees you want to keep: clearing limbs from the roof and wires, removing dead wood, and thinning a crown that catches too much wind.

Lot Clearing is for overgrown parcels, back corners full of brush and volunteer trees, or a yard being cleared before a remodel. Oak Stump Removal is listed on its own because oak wood is dense and oaks get special attention from local rules. Before any native oak is cut, it is worth asking the county whether a permit applies to your property, and we can talk that through with you. Storm Cleanup covers fallen limbs and trees after wind and rain, during our regular hours.

Repair, trim or remove

Not every problem tree needs to come out. A tree with one broken limb and a healthy trunk can often be trimmed and kept. A tree with a hollow base, a deep crack in the trunk, large dead sections in the crown, or roots that have heaved the soil on one side is a different story, and removal is usually the safer choice.

For stumps, the question is what you want to do with the spot afterward. If you just want lawn or mulch over it, grinding is usually enough. If you want a slab, a shed, a pool deck or a new tree in the same hole, full removal of the root ball gives you a cleaner base. We will tell you which one fits rather than selling the bigger job.

What a visit looks like

We start by looking at the stump or tree, the access to it, and what is nearby: fences, sprinkler lines, gas meters, the house. Side gates in Antelope are often narrow, so we check the width before bringing equipment. If a sprinkler line or low-voltage lighting runs near the stump, let us know where it is, since grinding goes below the surface.

On the day of the work we set up, protect what needs protecting, and grind or cut. Stump grinding throws chips, so we keep people and pets clear of the area while the machine runs. When we finish, we rake the chips back into the hole or pile them for removal, depending on what you asked for. With tree removal and trimming, we cut in sections where space is tight, and we clean up the branches and debris before we leave.

After grinding, the hole will settle a little as the chips break down. Many people top it off with soil after a few weeks before seeding or planting.
